Emotional Problems

Survival in a Modern World

We are hardwired to protect ourselves.  Our survival depends on our ability to fight off ‘real’ dangers or ‘run’ if need be from an immediate crisis. Well that’s how it worked in the past because our life did depend on it! This hardwiring is better known as ‘fight/flight’.  And whilst the dangers look different, the response, it’s probably safe to say, it has gotten worse! These days we live in a world with ‘information overload’ and, as a result, our primal ‘flight/flight’ gets constantly activated!  (This system hasn’t changed with evolution – unfortunately) It is the initial stress indicators that […]

April 2015 Newsletter – The Skin Connection

The Skin Connection Your skin is a remarkable self-renewing organ measuring up to 2 square metres in diameter and is part of a system which incorporates hair, nails and glands. Due to its connections with the internal body it can indicate when things are out of whack.  In fact, if your skin is suffering on some level then perhaps your internal body is also. Our physical body responds to stressors and those stressors could be anything in your environment that puts your body as a whole under pressure. Simply put; your thoughts affect how you feel and your emotions affect

Message in a Bottle

MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE Imagine this… ‘You are strolling leisurely where the water meets the sand and gracefully washes back to the ocean.  A soft gentle breeze brushes along your skin and plays with your hair, and the blue skies lay overhead with deep dark ominous clouds on the distant horizon as the sun begins to fade over the nearby mountain range.  As you walk, you notice the rays of sun bounce and sparkle off an object.  As you approach, you see that it is a bottle barely exposed above the sand.  You reach down and pull it from its

Let Them Play!

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS Let Them Play School holidays are fast approaching. It is a much needed break for developing brains to organise and process information gathered over the term, regenerate and prepare for the next term of learning. While it is nice to ‘chill out’, I urge you to resist the temptation to allow your child or children to sit for 2 hours or more playing some form of electronic game/device per day for the perceived ease of it. As a parent I understand at times it is convenient to allow this to occur; however, laying down foundations for future growth

Blossum into Spring

Blossom into Spring Sensual September While the official timeline of spring has only just arrived the environment around my local area appears to have been celebrating in full swing for the last 2 weeks.  The glorious song of birds welcome each new day.  The visual splendour of new flowering arrivals and soft scents linger through the warming air; and new family arrivals are seen across plant and animal species alike.  Heck even the stock exchange marks spring with company dividends to shareholders!! Human behaviour appears to adapt with environmental changes.  Each new season nurtures a change in thought, feeling and

SUPER HUMAN

SUPER HUMAN   What do you believe? Are you one of the many (like I was) who could do it all – without help?  I remember feeling isolated and alone and it was all at my own doing! Yes you read it right – ‘at my own doing’.  My stress levels increased so dramatically that I ‘shut off from the world’.  Looking in through the eyes of my family I was “always angry or sad” and my children would say “mum, you never smile anymore”. Through personal development and Kinesiology I discovered I had a belief that “I was supposed

School Yard Bullying

We all view bullying differently Some say ‘that’s life’, ‘I know my kids, they wouldn’t do that’, ‘they’re just going through a rough patch’, ‘they need to toughen up’, ‘oh – that’s kids being kids’ or ‘life’s not meant to be easy’. How do you justify to a family after a child, teenager, adolescent or adult has committed suicide from the repeated, deliberate hurt whether they sought assistance or not? How would you feel hearing ‘that’s life, ‘toughen up’ or ‘that’s just kids’? Bullying has been a hot topic in recent times! While at school I, as a victim of
